We pass this often between our house and the township airport. When @jyokota and her husband were visiting, she and I were driving by on our way to photograph at the marsh when she mentioned stopping sometime to take a photo. We never got around to it so I decided to stop there before Jim and I leave for Chicago tomorrow morning. I took this as a vintage car on the island was driving toward me. I wish I'd caught the car larger (the driver stopped and posed for me, actually, after I'd taken this one), but since I was using my 105mm, he was actually too close to capture the scene. If you're interested in seeing the car, here's a link to a version I posted on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/taffyraphael/15103139241/
The flicka photo is great - car a bit dark as Im sure its got some wonderful features but he didn't give you time? I'm glad no one has pinched this little horse! They would have in some countries.
This is lovely. Aren't there always those pictures that you say some day. Good that you finally made the time. Thank you for all your comments on my pics
@maggiemae@wordpixman Thanks for your visit Maggiemae and Arthur -- this is one of the facts of living on the island. Theft is not much of a problem because getting caught is inevitable in a small town with no place to hide anything. Sometimes teenagers get in trouble but it's rare to have a serious problem on-island with large objects (cars, mailbox decorations, bicycles, etc.). One of the joys here and real contrasts to Chicago urban life.
I agree with Gena - I like the road, incorporated into this photo, too. I also like the distant car approaching. Finally, I like the richness of the color and processing in this shot. The Flickr shot is fun, to see the car up close, but I like this shot more. Very interesting mailbox.
This is a fantastic shot in all its qualities. So funny the things we pass so often and don't give a second thought to. As much as I like this photo the close up photo of car you posted is pretty darned spectacular, too.
@creampuff Same in Chicago...flat boxes with a key that line up along the iron fences. BORING! I realized when I took this that I should be on the lookout and stock up on some of these photos of unusual ones for the winter!
@ceilidh I now want to find others on the island - I suspect there are hidden gems if only I can find them. It will be one of my projects when we get back there.
@kathiecb We don't even have one...they don't deliver on our road so we go into town to pick up mail at the post office. For UPS or Fedex, we go to the airport to get it. In Chicago, it's one of those flat metal things that you open with a key. Boring boring boring.
