Not actually what Mondrian artist challenge would fit but it's what got me thinking about capturing color is some rule-bound sort of way. This is actually a tunnel-like sculpture in Lincoln Park (site of yesterday's skyline & pond shot) but I couldn't shoot long-ways through the tunnel as a photography was lying smack in the middle photographing a couple's engagement shot. So anyone else had to work around him and the couple. That was when I thought of Mondrian. Increased saturation to emphasize the orange. The light spot is where the sun was shining in as it was setting. I wanted to have more of the shadows that were in the foreground but there was the annoying photography lying there (to see annoying photographer [and the sculpture[): https://www.flickr.com/photos/taffyraphael/15261164431/
Thanks so much for your lovely comments on the skyline shot yesterday!
Drat!! You should've just stood on him/her!! This is a fascinating image, I just love the repeating shape, different lighting and tonings. I know the 'cells' are the wrong shape, but I'm reminded of honey-comb. Please may we have another version, sans pesky photographers? But this is a fav for me anyway.
@golftragic I just posted the annoying photographer lying in the middle of the sculpture (up in commentary is the link) on facebook...he was smack dab in the middle so no one could photograph anything except with him and the couple in it. At the other end was a photographer taken a photo of parents and their 2 year old, with all grandparents standing behind the photographer trying to get the kid to look at the camera, and slowly spreading out so that blocked that end as well. Clearly the light was at its best! Thanks for your visit and comment, as always!
@taffy Seriously, and not a John McEnroe 'seriously', some people are just so darned selfish for words. I must check out your FB post (assuming it's public). Sure hope you can get another, clearer field, shot of this tunnel.
This is a very intriguing shot and I have been looking at it for ages, working it out. I love the orange and the patterns. Looking at your Flickr shot, I like your view better, its less conventional, so maybe the annoying photographer had a purpose after all.
I have been trying to work out what this was and am do pleased you put up the Flickr shot. Selfish photographer taking up all that space but I think he did you a favour as it forced you to do something different. Well done on your creativity! Love the colour!
Love the shapes and colour but can't quite relate it to a tunnel light sculpture but no matter I like what I see.you can wait ages for people to move out of shots . Some arequite oblivios to others!
Well I like your shot better. Still though I would like to see what you could of captured if that photographer has been lying there with those people at the end. What you captured is beautiful. Gorgeous abstract and a fav.
Fantastic shot, I love the symmetry here. Just checked out your flickr pic with the "annoying photographer". Don't you hate it when people interfere with your photography ideas.
I like this shot better though, I think it is more creative.
@golftragic@onewing Thanks to you both for liking my version! Where I wanted to stand was essentially almost on top of where he was, so I could take this photo, but with more shadow. He was hogging the whole area for all the good shadow time! I appreciate your kind words. @joansmor and Joan's right...he was working, but he could have taken that rather uncomplicated shot in a few minutes instead of lying there throughout the sunset of good lighting/shadows!!
@taffy I have heard of so many rude professionals on this site. That's a shame. I was just trying to tease you so you could let the anger drop. Anger hurts you not him. Jerks don't feel anything.
@joansmor Ahhh...that makes sense...I rarely get angry at stuff like that, especially since I had so many other options. I actually was surprised that in a public place like that on such a beautiful day that he was being so insensitive. I wish I were more into street photography as there were tons of options of him in weird positions to get shots of the couple doing really trite stuff like making hearts with their hands with the city in the background. His hogging the area is very rare to see here -- in the friendly midwest!
Love the pattern. Great shot on Flickr too! I seriously without question would have politely asked him to move momentarily "photographer to photographer" and if he didn't, then I would have started taking photos of his subjects. I'm so passive aggressive LOL! But this image is great for the abstract and color.
@icamera Surprisingly, I did ask if he'd be much longer, standing there with my camera in hand and he just looked back and said, 'yes, we'll be awhile.' I thought he'd say, "I'll move for a minute or two, but need to then get back to work" or something like that. Thanks for the visit and kind comment -- and the Flickr visit!
I like this shot better though, I think it is more creative.
