Friends who are photographers are visiting overnight on their way between Beaver Island and Denver so we went on a photo walk along the lake to stretch out after their 6 hour drive today. Of course, we had to stop at the fountain. The wind was blowing today and I liked the way the spray seemed to divide the city into clear and focused and behind a mist.
Gorgeous shot!! B&W is so fitting for Chicago, and this is a great one with the soft mist of the fountain in front as a counterpoint to the angular skyscrapers. Also, love the tall spray in the middle is mirroring the verticality of the buildings.
fav, the division is awesome ! How about trying to do a long exposure shot of this scene, smooth veil of sprayed water over the city vs. the clear view ...
I love this shot, excellent processing and definitely a fav. I love how the wind is blowing the spray of the fountain and as you say cutting the city in half.
This is a stunning B&W cityscape. I am very curious about all the different variations in composition which you must have - there are tiny details in the cut-off points on both sides which one could debate and, although the symmetry of the clear and misty halves would be gone, the placement of the main fountain in various spots would certainly also contribute to many different images and moods...wish I had a subject like this...!
Lovely shot... the fountain division is very clear and visually interesting. Your processing is beautiful - whatever you did gives this shot a real luster and clarity. The curves of the water contrast nicely with the angular lines of the city behind it. This is really fab.
Brilliant photography! It's perfect that the sky was cloudless up higher where the water peaked, making it really contrast nicely. This looks amazing in B&W. Fav.
@eyeamlisa Thanks so much Lisa! Yes, this was HDR using three images, and processed in Photomatix. Then, once I had the combined image, I imported it to Silver Efex and that's where I did the editing in b&w. Once back in Aperture, just a few tweaks with contrast and it was ready to post. I'm glad you liked it -- it was one of those shots that once done, I was excited to post, so am sooo pleased that others responded so well!
Wow I lone the tones and contrast and the water spray blowing off to one side really makes the shot for me. It really makes the right hand side pop even more stunning.
@mara19500 It's such a fun fountain to photograph and I know I'll end up continuing to post images of it from different vantage points. I do miss your photos but understand how hard it can be to keep up.
