The entry of the Palmer House Hotel -- rebuilt after the Chicago fire and an addition to the Hilton Hotels sometime in the past decade or so. I've taken various versions of this shot since joining 365 and finally liked this one enough to post.
I thought I could catch up this week -- have you ever had that realization that no matter what you do, there is not enough time to get done what you must get done? I suspect my participation may get a bit spotty over the next several weeks with work with students, visit to family this weekend in Colorado, work trip to Australia. All good, but drowning a bit in things that must be in place. Please know that I will be back regularly by the beginning of November and will be checking in whenever I can.
Great leading lines overhead. Works well in black and white. I know what you mean about trying to get it all done before the holidays, and out of town trips? You'll be in Australia while I'm in Africa! Both in the Southern Hemisphere.
I only said to Craig this morning that I need the world to freeze for a week
except for me, to enable me to catch up. Your next month sounds really busy, have fun and see you when you have time to pop in.
This is such an amazing shot, Taffy. I love all the detail you captured so well. It is so 3D, like I am there looking at it myself. I love your processing and use of B&W. Do what you can on here. That is all we can do, as life goes on away from here and is first priority. FAV
I love your architecture images. Safe travels, and while you're gone I will get my daily Taffy fix by revisiting some of my favorites and peeking in on Flickr just in case something shows up there.
Love all those bulbs..! you shot the left side of the entrance but how does the right side look ? Just wondering if the buildings in the back are in the shadows on the right side = less visible, making the bulbs even more a star in this shot.
This is a wonderful picture. Fav. Enjoy Australia. The most charismatic teacher I ever came across is Australian. She trained in Cairns and whatever they did the end product was remarkable. I'm off to Ireland next week so will be more busy than usual before and after
Excellent shot, love everything about it, the perspective, the repetition, the b&w, got to be a fav.
Know what you mean about being behind with 365. Our photo club is putting on its annual exhibition on the 11 and 12 October and there is so much work to be done in organizing it.
Where in Australia are you going to be? Have a safe trip.
We will miss a daily dose of Taffy's views of Chicago. But we all have lifes and sometimes other things just have to take priority. Gives our lives balance. Really nice shot.
I LOVE the Palmer House. This is a great take on the entry. Be easy on yourself this month. Deadlines and commitments can be rough. Give yourself permission to do what you can here knowing everyone will welcome you warmly as you are able to visit.
Wonderful lines... great architecture. Excellent shot. :) Don't worry... have a safe trip, hang in there and we are looking forward to some views of down under, if you get a chance.
@onewing Thanks Babs! I'm in Cairns for about a week -- all work, with a one day trip to Brisbane for work but able to squeeze in an afternoon meet up for photography with some 365ers. Then in Adelaide, again work, an overnight in Barosa Valley for photos and wine, and a night in Sydney before flying out. So almost all work, but a few days here and there for fun. It's the prep for the trip right now that's making me crazy on top of normal work here.
Wonderful architecture - the architect must have had many sleepless nights if something was a little out of kilter - beautifully captured. Have a great trip.
Wow, you have got a lot on your plate! Nice to know you will be in our area at some time even if still a long way away! Have fun in Australia! Its not as nice as NZ, you know!
@maggiemae :-) Yes, NZ is gorgeous and so much fun. I've been lucky enough to work there as well, but it's been about 5 years since I've had that chance. You live in a beautiful country!!
I love a stunning capture! I love everything about it. Wonderful composition right lines and I love all of the light bulbs. I also like the looks of the building facades.
Looks like dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot (SOS) to me. :) I hope you can enjoy the madness. We look forward to your travel photos. Safe travels!
