Viewed looking down from the Acropolis in Athens -- this was a gigantic, open air theater that honored the guide of its name. You can see the walls through which Athenians would have entered, and then semi-circular seating. I suspect without pillows, those weren't the most comfortable seats!
No need to comment. Filling in two blanks in my May main album.
Absolutely fantastic amphitheatre. The acoustics in these places is amazing. We saw a performance of Romeo and Juliet at the amphitheatre at Curium in Cyprus and it was amazing. No microphones in those days and you could hear every word even at the back. They certainly knew how to build in those days.
How can we not comment?! This is a superb wide angle, catching the whole of the amphi as well as the context of the city - beautiful composition, Taffy.
If you think that is and Rome were considered the beginning of civilization then this looks like it poured out of the Acropolis and spread round the world.
Great shot. Remember the scene from our visit last year - they were taking down a temporary stage at the time and the screen at the back obscured the view over Athens.
