The mirror box tutorial that Babs introduced use to - http://365project.org/onewing/365/2015-08-26 - was fun to try. More practice with PS layers which are starting to make sense to me (YAY!) but still so much to learn. Two major discoveries from this activity:
1. Layers are powerful and can be learned with just a little practice
2. PS is so much more than just the layers tool and THAT'S what makes it so complicated to learn.
I'd been putting off PS because I thought the layers part was the hard part. It's learn-able and then the little tutorials on these different outcomes are where I think I'll begin to learn how to use PS more effectively.
The other big lesson: Doing a mirror box for the first time would be easier, I think, without tackling something with so many lines/angles/shadows. But it was fun!
More fun...Billy Joel concert at Wrigley Field tonight!
I really like this Taffy! I am impressed - PS is something I use for cloning and not much else - I think it scares me! Sounds silly I know! I really should take the bull by the horns and have a go - layers here I come! Fav for this most unusual image which I have to keep looking at!
This made an absolutely fascinating almost abstract shot - love the lighting to it and all those lines and shadows. I keep telling myself I am going to give layers a try - soon - maybe when I get stuck indoors this winter when they say we're going to be wetter than usual. You've done well!!
Oh that's the vase & flowers from your fireplace hearth. I didn't see the box at first I was intrigued by the hallway and what I thought were reflections. That's what I get for not reading first. Pretty impressive. I keep saying I am going to leal a bite about P.S. But still dragging my feet. I seem to have become a procrastinator in my old age. Anyway fave!
This is lovely. I tried out this box thing a while back. I almost got it right, but had some difficulty getting all the corners and edges to line up perfectly! I spent FAR too much time on it, I know that. Fun though.
@featherstone has been doing these for over a year. She even combined it with the twirling thing that as been popular. It is a good way to learn about layers. We do something like this in scrapbooking.
Super mirror box. It took me a while to master layers, but it is great fun and easy when you get the basics in place.
A real challenge is the 3D orb I have done a few of them and noticed today that Joyce @thistle has done one http://365project.org/thistle/365/2015-08-28 and it is super. I think she may have followed another of Gavin Hoey's tutorials and here is a link to it. Give it a try. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKbUM5NLJ_g
A Fave from me! Layers are a wonderful tool but the most important thing to remember is that you need to know which layer you are working on (otherwise you don't see what you are doing or even worse you get a warning message that means nothing to you (e.g. Not enough pixels selected" ) because you are invariably trying to do something on the wrong layer altogether!
I'm really impressed with this. I like the way you've used light and shade. I have no excuse for not getting to grips with Photoshop - but somehow I keep putting it off.
@kelly2 I had to laugh as I had no clue what PS did or how to use it as recently as a month ago! If I can learn it anyone can! Thanks for your visit and kind comment.
This turned out great....and, with a great sense of mystery!! I love that you took an asymmetrical object to turn into a mirror box....it adds another level of complexity! This might be worth trying when my life gets a little easier! ;-))
