It is impossible to convey the array of colors, structures, symbols, and other elements that comprise the main section of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, under construction in Barcelona -- the final masterpiece by Gaudi. I took photos in each direction so to imagine the structure, consider that this is only one of four directions, each equally incredible. While the fisheye makes it look surreal, it actually is surreal being there.
Junko's photo shows the majesty through the distortion from a wide angle lens: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2015-12-19
PS Update: I thought you might find a video useful so here's a link to a US news program called 60 Minutes. This is one of the segments from a few years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnNwpmdWm1w
Spectacular image Taffy! The use of the wide angle lens to converge the lines of the pillars, the gorgeous colors and the detail is unbelievable! HUMUNGUS FAV!
You completely captured the ambience of being in there, and I really love how the fisheye makes you feel embraced within that enormous space. Oh, we were SO lucky to be there, and without the busloads of tourists! Amazing structure. And Fav, of course.
Amazing, amazing shot!! I think the fisheye really adds a lot to the representation of this incredible space!! It is absolutely impossible to capture it all in one photo, but this one at least conveys the height and grandeur! FAV!
Your shot and Junko's are each beautiful and unique! This cathedral is so spectacular and you've met the challenge of capturing its magnificence!Fav of course!
But you and Junko are certainly giving it a try! I'm loving the difference between the effects of the 2 lenses. The fish eye certainly draws in the stuff around the edges.
Amazing capture and even more amazing architecture. I have never been to Barcellona but many Maltese have and they have never managed to convey to me all the beauty of this cathedral as you have done with your shot. Fav.
Your photo is so amazing - the clarity and colors are fabulous. That you were able to take in so much with one shot is remarkable. You really give us a feeling that we're there. It must have been awesome.
I've just been waxing lyrical about Junko's version of this shot, and I could say exactly the same about yours Taffy. It ticks all the boxes and has a few more sights to feast my eyes on, that stained glass window being the chief amongst them. Definite fav.
Oh, seriously.... amazing. Wonderful shot. The choice of lens is perfect. So much to savor here. I would cut off my pinky to get inside. ;) Hand-clapping fav.
Oh my this is fabulous! The fish eye brings the whole image together adding to the surreal feel of the place. Junko's image compliments your perfectly! What a team of artists you make! Huge Fav for this! I seriously want a fish eye lens!
Taffy, this shot is a cross between surreal and amazing! Which totally captures the essence of what Sagrada Familia meant to me. Hence the perfect emotional interpretation of Gaudi's finest in one shot. Fantastic & fav.
@pamknowler -- you make me laugh! I came over to see Taffy's fisheye again after responding to you from my photo about your lens lust for the ultra wide, and here you are lusting after the fisheye, too! Me, too, after seeing Taffy's work with it!
@jyokota LOL!! I can't help it I love both your shots and want both lenses!! Now can I justify getting both? They would both be really useful in Chicago!! I could treat myself for Christmas - now that's a good excuse!! Well I can't come all the way to Chicago and not have the right equipment can I? Hee Hee!!
@pamknowler I will say that the fisheye or WA will be VERY useful -- probably the one you'll use the most on our city walks. Too bad you use a canon as I have an extra fisheye for my Nikon since I still have the borrowed one! They would be great holiday presents for you to get! Seriously! I'd recommend getting an inexpensive fisheye as it is more like a toy -- not a wide use for it, but when it works, it's great. But invest in a good WA. Junko has the 10-24 or something like that by Canon, and I know others on the site with WA lenses have been very positive about some of the other brands that are also not quite as costly. You could do a lot with landscapes as well, where you live. You should post a thread asking for advice about the WA as that's the one that is worth an investment but maybe not need the super expensive version by Canon (though I admit to loving my Nikon one and Junko's Canon is terrific).
@taffy Yes I think you are right Taffy - a less expensive fisheye sounds perfect. I think I will stick to Canon for the WA - used to have cheaper lenses and could never understand why my shots were soft. My friend who is the Pro photographer said to me never scrimp on the glass - if you can afford it get the best. Since then I have only bought Canon. I was thinking of changing to Nikon last year before I bought the 5D mark 3 - it was when I worked out how much I would have to pay for new equivalent lenses which stopped me. Once you are committed to one of the top makes you really have to stay with it. Ooh I think I need to spoil myself!! I really want to make sure I have the right lens for my city walks!!
@pamknowler Then I think you should get the one Junko has, for sure. It's a beautiful WA and much like the one I have, but it has 3mm wider at the widest end. Remember, you can also do fisheye distortion in LR -- not as much fun, but do-able. For fisheye, I know that there was a thread on 365 earlier. Mine (not the borrowed one) is a Rokimon or something like that, and is manual focus -- most less expensive ones are. With the fisheye, there's not a lot to worry about re focus anyway. It's fine, but not like I'd say it's the very best or anything, so check out the thread.
Congratulations on the #1 spot on TT, Taffy!! This is such a wonderful shot, and you inspire me to get a fisheye lens, even though it is always the photographer that makes the shot, and not the equipment!! :-)))) Happy Holidays to you and your family! I will send you a separate email regarding the safari.
