Butterfly 2

Still practicing with textures and the butterflies. I so appreciated your comments on the one I posted yesterday. I don't know what kind any of these are, so here is the 'orange and black one with spots.'
These were taken at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Lincoln Park in Chicago.
Wow! And wow!

Cute little fellow. lovely against the background. The excellent 105 f/2.8 Nikkor lens I imagine?
March 29th, 2016
@frankhymus Yes, that's the lens! It's quite a fantastic one, isn't it? The first one I bought (other than the kit lens).

March 29th, 2016
A bit rushed in looking at 365 but this shot took my eye! fav
March 29th, 2016
Beautiful, with some painterly work on the textures. I am laughing about the "not knowing the species" part, because I have no clue, either. Very artistic.
March 29th, 2016
Terrific image, colors
March 29th, 2016
Loving the Orange and black one with spots - so beautiful and the image is raised to an art work by your processing! Fav!
March 29th, 2016
This is fantastic Taffy! Wonderful processing.
March 29th, 2016
I haven't seen yesterday's yet, but I like this one very much. The background textures are great and complement the colours of the butterfly, and its posture makes for a visually interesting image. So simple, so good. Fav.
March 29th, 2016

March 29th, 2016
This is a superb example of how textures should be done... great result.
March 29th, 2016
Wonderful textures, fav.
March 29th, 2016
Absolutely stunning. A big fav. I am a bit limited on 365 time at the moment because my nephew is visiting from Western Australia.
March 29th, 2016
Love the addition of the texture to this, it works perfectly and turns a nice image of a butterfly into a work of art. I really must look into textures!!!
March 29th, 2016
Really lovely shot.
March 29th, 2016
Beautiful capture and great processing to make it stand out!

March 29th, 2016
That's a beautiful butterfly Taffy and your focus is superb, he's so sharp! The texture works well and has created a softly diffused background.
March 29th, 2016
Very artistic feel. Excellent picture and processing.
March 29th, 2016
Congratulations on making the PP. Well deserved.
March 29th, 2016
@taffy - Do you have any pointers as to how you are creating this type of background? This is really spectacular! Wish I could fave it again!
March 29th, 2016
@skipt07 Thanks Skip! I have been using Topaz Textures (a plug in that works with LR and PS). I really like it. It took me awhile to learn to use the masking function effective, and to create my own texture effects rather than using their presets. It's fairly intuitive and there are some useful videos as well. The presets are very easy to use, but it's better if you can create your own effect.
March 29th, 2016
You are out pacing me on PS and with textures, once again nicely done...and great detail of the 'orange and black one with spots' (that would be my description too!).
March 29th, 2016
@ukandie1 Not on PS...this one was LR and Topaz Textures, so I'm likely still in need of tutorial help one day!
March 29th, 2016
Beautifully captured. Fav!! 😃
March 29th, 2016
@taffy Not from me...lol, I will be looking to you for help:)

I share your butterfly ignorance, but this is lovely, with the textures and tones. Very pretty!

So clear and such an interesting background. Lovely.
March 29th, 2016

March 30th, 2016
Yes!
March 30th, 2016
Love the background with those beautiful orange colors. The butterfly is so sharp.
March 30th, 2016
Wow nice background and sharp butterfly!
Taffy is the Topaz plug in you used part of the Nik collection that they are offering for free now?
March 30th, 2016
This is very eye catching!
March 30th, 2016
@radiogirl Topaz is a separate company so this is Topaz Textures. And I do highly recommend it!
March 30th, 2016
Mac
Wow, Taffy, this is fabulous!
March 30th, 2016
Instant Fav. Are you using your own textures?
March 30th, 2016
@shepherdmanswife Thanks, Chantal. I'm using a combination of my own and some from Daily Textures. The ones I've liked are Nature Splash and Fairy Tale something or other. And then in Topaz Textures, there are useful adjustments like "Light Leaks" that give you more control over the way the image is lit in different areas.
March 30th, 2016
Gorgeous images with theses textures Taffy. Are Daily textures free? I haven't really used any textures but must do soon.
March 30th, 2016
Beautifully done. Gorgeous.
March 30th, 2016
@elaine55 If you log on to Daily Textures, they have a few free ones that you can start with. Then, there are packages they have on sale each month. I've only bought two of those, and now have figured out what kind of photos I've already done, to create my own textures. It's really easy, but nice to have a few to start with.
March 30th, 2016
Wonderful use of the texture.
March 30th, 2016
@taffy - Thank you Taffy! I did a couple shots of birds that I cleaned up the jumbled background of branches and just made it white. I got to wondering how they might look with this type of background. Maybe I'll give it a try.
March 30th, 2016
FAV -- I love your layering with textures that makes the butterfly leap out in dimensionality against the background.
March 31st, 2016
@taffy Thanks Taffy I will have a look.
April 1st, 2016
Congrats on TT!! I love this shot. When you say your own textures are you importing your own or are you adjusting their textures?
April 1st, 2016
@pamknowler Thanks Pam. I'm doing both actually. This one was Daily Textures, modified by me using Light Leaks and other miscellaneous things in the options panels.
April 2nd, 2016
@taffy weren't YOU mum about this beauty as you were so thoughtful to congratulate me! I love your butterfly processes, and you're using textures with great success! It would be impossible for anyone to copy your work, and I know it's appreciated when you say, as you did to Pam, above, how you came to this!
April 2nd, 2016
@Weezilou Too kind!!
April 2nd, 2016
WOW oh WOW! Instant fav!!
