Still practicing with textures and the butterflies. I so appreciated your comments on the one I posted yesterday. I don't know what kind any of these are, so here is the 'orange and black one with spots.'
These were taken at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Lincoln Park in Chicago.
Beautiful, with some painterly work on the textures. I am laughing about the "not knowing the species" part, because I have no clue, either. Very artistic.
I haven't seen yesterday's yet, but I like this one very much. The background textures are great and complement the colours of the butterfly, and its posture makes for a visually interesting image. So simple, so good. Fav.
Love the addition of the texture to this, it works perfectly and turns a nice image of a butterfly into a work of art. I really must look into textures!!!
Hahaha I don't know what kind any of these are, so here is the 'orange and black one with spots'!!! Love this, you've got the processing down on these. Love the textures...
@skipt07 Thanks Skip! I have been using Topaz Textures (a plug in that works with LR and PS). I really like it. It took me awhile to learn to use the masking function effective, and to create my own texture effects rather than using their presets. It's fairly intuitive and there are some useful videos as well. The presets are very easy to use, but it's better if you can create your own effect.
You are out pacing me on PS and with textures, once again nicely done...and great detail of the 'orange and black one with spots' (that would be my description too!).
@shepherdmanswife Thanks, Chantal. I'm using a combination of my own and some from Daily Textures. The ones I've liked are Nature Splash and Fairy Tale something or other. And then in Topaz Textures, there are useful adjustments like "Light Leaks" that give you more control over the way the image is lit in different areas.
@elaine55 If you log on to Daily Textures, they have a few free ones that you can start with. Then, there are packages they have on sale each month. I've only bought two of those, and now have figured out what kind of photos I've already done, to create my own textures. It's really easy, but nice to have a few to start with.
@taffy - Thank you Taffy! I did a couple shots of birds that I cleaned up the jumbled background of branches and just made it white. I got to wondering how they might look with this type of background. Maybe I'll give it a try.
@pamknowler Thanks Pam. I'm doing both actually. This one was Daily Textures, modified by me using Light Leaks and other miscellaneous things in the options panels.
@taffy weren't YOU mum about this beauty as you were so thoughtful to congratulate me! I love your butterfly processes, and you're using textures with great success! It would be impossible for anyone to copy your work, and I know it's appreciated when you say, as you did to Pam, above, how you came to this!
Taffy is the Topaz plug in you used part of the Nik collection that they are offering for free now?
