No need to comment...very behind in responding. Document/diary shot: we're back in Chicago but unfortunately not to start moving in. Shocking to hear that a renovation project is behind schedule, I'm sure. Kitchen was supposed to begin to be installed but it won't happen til early next week. It took longer than predicted for the plumbing and electric work, but it's now done. Paint has begun in the areas outside the kitchen/powder room and is looking good. Lots ahead, though... But we can see progress.
Thank you for your wonderful comments on the bullrush meadow image!
I know it is a pain to have it behind schedule, but I have a really good feeling this will feel a whole bunch like a permanent home for you two very soon. xoxo
@jgpittenger Yes -- we're heading back up there next Monday (I have to be in Wyoming for a conference for a few days between now and then). Then, we'll stay up there until the move. Then close down BI and focus on getting everything set up in our 'forever' (we hope!) place.
@cathieg Big smile -- you're right! I think once the cabinets are on site, with all the electrical and plumbing done, it's really only about 2 weeks to install and hook up everything. Then the painting and final coat on the floors and we should be good to go even if the powder room isn't done. Fingers crossed we can move in by the third week in October or earlier.
@jgpittenger No...this was supposed to be an excuse to vacation in Wyoming, with Jim coming too. But with the timing, I'm just going to do the talks I've committed to, and will get to do a day hike in Snowy Range with my host and some other friends who all teach at UW. I'm back on Monday, so a quick trip.
These projects always take longer than anticipated. We've built 5 houses over the last 30 years and they always take longer and cost more. I feel your pain.
What a bummer for you after the interminable wait. Good to see that some progress is being made though. I think if I lived there I'd be glued to the windows for far too much time, that view is just fantastic.
Good to see there is some progress even though it's slow! That's the trouble when you are not there every day keeping a close eye on workmen they take advantage of you! Hopefully not long now! I am so excited for you as this is finally going to be a stunning home for you and Jim! Enjoy your trip! Fav!
How disappointing for your move to be delayed yet again. At least things are progressing and it won't be too long now before you can move in and relax.
Great that things are finally progressing even if it's a bit behind. It will be so worth it just to enjoy that view when you move in. A lovely collage Fav
@casablanca Funny expression and can see where it could apply. For the most part, I would say folks are showing up and working hard, but coming up against some unexpected challenges. Cabinets were delayed which we hadn't known, so that kind of slowed the rest. But, hopefully maybe not for more than a week to 10 days.
some things apparently are relatively universal...like having great patience when renovating or building. Make the most of the space in between now and moving in..it will be busy once you do. Like the collage.
When friend brought a townhouse that was going to be built and then she actually signed the papers and moved in on time I about fainted. Your problems are more the norm.
Hope it all gets moving for you soon and you can get in there. Nice to see there has been progress, even if not completion.
