Little Building looked so tiny and admiring when I saw this on my computer. Big Building looks incredibly imposing. Poor Little Building is about to be surrounded (well, in the next few years) with lots of Big Buildings. Little Building liked being the biggest in the neighborhood for almost 15 years, and is sad to see so many of its neighbors being torn down and replaced.
PS and 'truth in advertising': Little Building (37 stories tall) is really about the same size...I used a 14mm wide angle, standing almost at the base of Big Building (probably about the same) when taking this photo. Wide angle lenses create significant distortion which can be used to advantage (as is the case here) OR can be totally annoying! But in the neighborhood, there are three new buildings, each one about 58 stories tall and at this point in various stages of construction, that will make Little and Big Building look rather small, changing the feel of the neighborhood, and creating a traffic nightmare.
But Little Building kept on dreaming that one day it would grow up to be like Big Building because then just maybe he could look out for other Little Buildings like him and stop them being torn down. So he kept busy doing stretching exercises in the mornings and never gave up hope.....
@pamknowler I agree -- I love it when an image leads to a discussion of some kind. What's funny about this is from the base of our building, Big Building becomes Little Building!
I just love the story and the distortion in action. Makes an intriguing photo and also makes me think about how different lenses behave. Tallest building in Geelong is 8 or 10 stories, I think.
Thoughtful and creative lenswork. There's something of a dystopian novel about the result (thinking of 1984) which I think is created by Big and the angle you've captured it at.
