"The Picasso" dominates the square that adjoins the government (city, state) buildings beyond. Once summer arrives, it's the site of the weekly Thursday farmer's market. In December, there's a German village with food, holiday ornaments, etc for sale. It's also the site for protests and celebrations. When our sports teams win a national championship, The Picasso wears the hat or helmut of the team. This morning, it was pretty dull. I was on my way to meet @ukandie1 for an architectural tour of one of our significant skyscrapers (where my photos were mostly rubbish).
I so enjoyed reading your comments on the zebra - thank you!
I like the contrast between the flowing lines and modernism (not sure that's the right word) of the Picasso sculpture on the one hand and the imposing but somewhat conventional architecture of the two buildings in the background. Quite a statement.
What a amazing sculpture. To my eye it gets a bit lost in the Browns and blacks behind it...probably wouldn’t have worked to have the lighter building behind it
I like all all the angles and lines of the buildings contrasted with the curves of the statue. Love the grays and browns on a cloudy day...makes me want to pull my turtleneck up a bit higher.
I love the Picaso statue and it’s one of the great things about Chicago I think - all the wonderful street art you find. I have a lovely shot of a Rosie sitting on the ledge under the statue. It was a very warm day and the plaza was very busy - so different to your capture. Lovely contrast in styles of the buildings too. Fav!
It has to be a Picasso with its strange looks. Picasso is not among my favourite artists, I have to say. The square dominated by the statue is gorgeous. Thank you for the interesting info.
You can tell the people walk by it frequently- they're hardly giving the master's work a glance! The weather must be warming up though- I see the fountain is running. Great street shot.
Plenty to see on this quiet day. I always want to visit the buildings that you post, so you must be showing them really well. It is a fine piece of work in the Plaza.
Sorry to hear that you did not like any of your shots from the Inland Steel Building, but I really like this. Great comp, and really like the muted colors!
