This has probably been the most incredible scene of our entire trip. We watched the leopard surprise the reebok and drag him out of sight into the bushes by the river. Next, we watched as he dragged the buck to the base of the tree. After resting, he suddenly leapt onto the truck of the tree carrying the buck, resting at the V at the lowest point in the image (already high up the tree). And then he dragged it up into the tree, eventually onto a long branch where it situated the deer and started licking it. We didn't stay much longer. I have the whole sequence at the tree, so it may show up sometime in the future. I'm astounded at how our guide sees an ear wiggle in the brush, tells us its a leopard and we should wait, and then this scene unfolds. Thanks for your lovely comments, as always.
@joansmor Joan, I'm totally wimpy and squeamish, but while here, after the first day, the rhythm of the cycle of life starts to make sense and feel normal. No one is killing for the sake of it. And seeing two little lion cubs today made me think of the lioness who caught the warthog. It's hard to explain, but somehow here, it just all makes sense. Thanks as always for your comments/visits!
@jnadonza Thanks! I'm focusing on animals at the moment but have so many others as well. It's a gorgeous country and such a strong sense of culture and place. I'm very impressed with all I've seen and the people I've met, and am learning a lot!
Amazing sight and shot ! Being in their country - seems quite right to see the life cycle and survival of the fittest . Each species relies on another . but very difficult for us to sometimes comprehend - fav
@pamknowler Now you're talking! I cannot recommend this enough! And I would recommend the group we worked with and our specific driver if you decide to go sometime. It has been perfect thus far!
Fantastic shot. I simply love your photos. I can't get enough of the place although it's a while since we were there but you are really getting me motivated for another trip. Fav for sure!
Oh my goodness! What an incredible scene to both see and have the presence of mind to photograph! Leopards are so difficult to capture at the best of times but going up a tree with prey - so envious!
you have a good guide - which is what we lacked in Namibia - and you have witnessed this amazing scene and captured it terrifically. You must be so pleased.
Witnessing life in the wild definitely alters one’s perspective. Your photo tells the story so beautifully! The one animal that eluded us on our safari was the leopard. Fantastic capture!
I can’t even watch animal shots on TV if there is any chance of a tiger/lion/ cheetah catching any poor creature....I hate that chase, you know how it is but I must say this shot is amazing & to see it in real life must be mesmerising!
It is an incredible capture! Amazing to see...but also hard for me to see. It is reality but being a vegetarian I have difficulty seeing one beautiful animal have to lose their life to feed another. I couldn't watch the wildlife shows due to this and was traumatized at Bambi and other Disney movies from my childhood. I am a lost cause and highly sensitive. But still a big Fav, Taffy! You are an incredible photographer and this is probably an image you could sell if you so desired. :)
Wow I don’t even know what to say that hasn’t been said ... absolutely amazing - would love to know how you found this adventure- so enjoying your photos
Oh wow, what an amazing photo. Not so amazing for the buck, but I think it will take the leopard a while to eat his way through this prey, unless of course he has a large family.
Absolutely amazing photo. For me sitting behind my computer screen I think it would be hard to watch but when you think of how it's all about survival maybe being there in person is different. I would still love to be there!
@stray_shooter Actually, I'm happy to share what I've learned from this trip in terms of what to look for in a tour (it's insane to go without a tour, basically), and our tour included only my husband and me. And I promised Jim it would not be a photo tour -- he's been just as happy as I have been which says a lot about what Heffy has been able to do for both of us. Email off-site is teraphael 'at' gmail.
Really an amazing experience and shot! This leopard is so incredibly strong!! Really happy for you that your trip is a success and you have a good guide.
This shot reminds me of the picture I took of the Red Tail Hawk who'd just made a meal out of one of our black squirrels. It was not a "pretty picture" but I understood it for what it was- the cycle of life. I would never expect to see a leopard drag something this big up into a tree- but I suppose it keeps others who might have an eye for an easy meal at bay. Great shot- wow to see it in action!
What a trip for you and Jim to share together!!! You clearly do your research before heading out, and return with amazing photos! This had to be the sight of a lifetime! I'm glad it was you behind the camera when it happened so we all could see this most remarkable moment!!! And fill Ron in, and Ken and I will have a chat with him later! An amazing trip!
Wow, cannot believe he took him up the tree like this. Amazing photo. You need to submit this one to a magazine or something. So grateful for your sharing of your photos. fav
@vickisfotos Thanks for all the visits and favs!! I feel like this was really one of those trips of a lifetime and was thrilled with what we were able to see in the range of places we visited. I'm convinced it's all in the hands of the guide. This company has great ones, based on our experience and on the reviews I've seen. Wishing you a GREAT experience there!!!
