We have been fortunate enough with up-to-date vaccines and a mandated masking policy to feel safe enough to have a 'date' in the city once again. We had dinner and saw a play at the Shakespeare Theatre on Navy Pier. With a tiny tripod and my mirrorless in my purse (yay to lighter equipment), I spent a few minutes outside the theater on the upper walkway of the Pier. It was a beautiful night!
What a scene! And to think I could have stood alongside you and been shooting, too, instead of having ice cream. (I wonder if I might have eliminated that purple on the left?)
Beautiful! What is the purple on the left? What mirror less camera have you got Taffy. I really need to sell my heavy Canon 5D mark 111 but donโt know what to get to replace it. I am taking most of my photos with my IPhone at the moment.
@pamknowler Thanks Pam! The purple is an LED advertising sign built into the clear fence.
I'm very happy with my Nikon Z mirrorless. Lighter weight and great optics. Junko and friends of ours seem happy with their Canon R6 or R5s which are parallel to the Nikons. It's worth taking a look at them -- love that they are lighter weight.
@taffy thanks Taffy I will check out those Canon ones first I think. I just cannot carry the big camera around any more especially with a big lens on it. So sad!
@pamknowler -- I loved my 5D but haven't used it much at all except as a second camera since I got my R5 this summer. Friends who are birders went with the R6 for its speedy responsiveness. But the lenses are even more heavy if you use an adapter, and some of the new RF lenses are very heavy and big. But I went with the set that @Taffy got initially, the Canon equivalent 50mm, 16mm, and they are thin and pancake like in size. The 50mm is GREAT but the 16mm has quite a bit of distortion, which doesn't matter in some contexts or can even add a sense of fish eye. But until LR comes up with a profile for that lens, I can't automatically straighten up the lines. If you truly believe that you need to go closer to your iphone in size and weight, the one-fixed-lens 24-600 Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 IV is pretty good, even with its tiny sensor.
@jyokota Thanks for the info Junko. I think I would like to get to a camera shop and handle the Canon cameras and see what they feel like. So sad but I really need to go light these days.
