AEC Mammoth by terryliv

AEC Mammoth

Mungerannie was one of the drop off points on the track for the Birdsville mail run so it seems fitting that the pub is the final resting place for some of Tom Kruse's old trucks that he used on his Birdsville mail run and earthmoving business.

This is one of his earlier vehicles, an AEC Mammoth, built in the 1930s.

What a restoration dream, shame to see such an iconic truck sitting in desolation. I guess old Tom's spirit wanders around them still :)

Rusty gold! I wonder how often he made a mail run?

@hermann This wasn't his main truck Sally. That was a Leyland Badger. Tom abandoned it in Pandy Pandy Station in 1957 after a major breakdown. It was then recovered by some enthusiasts in 1993 and transported to Adelaide and by 2000, it had been fully restored.

What a shame such a lovely old truck is wasting away. Shame nobody loves it enough to restore it to it's former glory. Great shot and information.
