In November 2020 an idiot drove his car through the hedge opposite our house. We went out to check that he was ok and he said he just lost concentration! He also said that his insurance would repair the 3 metre gap in the hedge. You guessed it! We contacted the council and the estate managers, who both refused to deal with it.
A couple of months ago I met a local stranger at the bus stop nearby and we got chatting about the gap, and how people are using it as a shortcut thereby stopping new growth. She said she was a volunteer for the Staffordshire Regiment and thought she might be able to get hold of a piece of fencing which I could collect. We heard nothing for a while, then when we got back from Florida we found a bundle of fencing at the side of the house. I wish I knew where she lived so that I could thank her.
Two weeks ago Dirk and I put in the new fencing and a few sprigs of hawthorn that we managed to get hold of.
Then, yesterday, the estate gardeners turned up and did a proper job…although they did leave our fence in.
I feel a lot safer now, and don’t feel grumpy every time I look out of the window. New curtains and new hedge in one week. Awesomeness!
That's quite the story, Lesley! The kindness of strangers with the woman you met! So glad it all worked out in the end. And what a lovely view! (and you can now sleep past 5 am, too!) Fav
It’s typical isn’t it….as soon as you fix the problem yourself the powers that be come round! It’s a bit like me losing my glasses case, getting it replaced then finding the old one.
It does look very smart now but the young man got away lightly!
At last! I hope you see that kind lady again one day to thank her.
This shot is just fabulous, the colours of the sky and the rapeseed work wonderfully together. So pretty.
