This is a single bloom from a wild geranium: the plant grows rampantly and is considered by some to be a weed... but it has these delicate little blooms only 15mm across and quite unlike those of its cultivated relative, the pelargonium family (thank you @therubysusan for this information). Mrs S rescued some plants from a cliff top in southern Brittany some years ago and they now brighten up the bank opposite our house. (It was 'fun' getting a sharp shot this morning as the strong wind was making the flowers bob around rather vigourously!)
@gillg@jocasta This, unlike some of my other recent photos, was taken on the plant. The bloom was just sufficiently proud of the foliage to be backlit by the morning sun... even if I did have to adopt a rather inelegant posture to capture it. The dark background owes much to the use of an inverted radial filter in Lightroom 5. As to sharpness - I had to make a choice, and I decided that if the stamens were sharp, they would lead the eye into the bloom.
@shannejw The bees were very busy this morning but as there's not a lot of pollen on the blooms yet (too early?), they only alight for a second or two, so it's very difficult to capture them. I got a couple of blurry ones, but nothing worth keeping!
