I've no idea what this is - I foind it hiding beneath the leaves of the Irises which grow like weeds in our garden. It's small - the flower head is only about 30mm in length - but the colour caught my eye... and it's rather dainty.
Heather? @markp help, right? It's absolutely stunning and I love the otherworldly effect of the bright colors contrasted with the dark colors and greens. It's like a spotlight in and of its self! Big fav.
Sorry Daryl, only just seen notification. see you have had it identified. I was going to tell you its not Heather, but some sort of bulb, but was not sure exactly which one. Lovely shot, love the lighting.
@darylo Sorry Richard, I thought I was on Daryls page , only realised after I had posted my comment, I then scrolled up past the photo and saw your name. Lol. All I can say really is PANTS Daryl. Hahaha.
Beautiful picture! Very effective use of a ring light. I had one in the days of film but could never get the hang of using it on-camera - I take my hat off to you!
In my part of So. Illinois only one species was common, a darker blue, almost purple one. A friend of mine and I split a large order of bulbs the year I moved across town, including several blue shades of the lovely things, but life intervened and I moved away from them before they got established. Somehow it really lifts my spirits to see yours!
@tarynoakley. I hesitated between this shot and a closer view to better show the individual florets - in the end I went with this view. The picture 'pops' as a result of processing which you prefer not to do: in my defence, the final processing is part of my original conception - I know what I'm going to do with the photo before I take it. Thanks for your interest and all your comments Taryn - I'm now following your project.
did I win?
It's a very nice shot of it whatever it is
