This view of Trégu Lake was taken in the late evening but while the sky was still bright - I especially liked the contrails and their reflections. This is an entry for Black & White Fortnight 2 - Water. (Viewing on black is good but it makes your eyes go funny!)
Great shot! Your decision to frame on the right mixes reflection and natural into something the viewer can't quite discern. You just fall right into this shot - what is real and what is reflection? Wonderful work!
I love what you've done with the color channels. Alluring effect. The abundance of midtones is probably what keeps.me staring, too. I tend to go very dark and would have bypassed this image's true nature. What can I say but swell shot.
@louuncouth Thanks Lou - coming from you, this is quite a compliment. In the past I've always gone for a high-contrast look in B&W but there are quite a few people on here who produce exquisite mid-toned work, so I was inspired to try for myself.
@amandal Thank you Amanda - even though I say so myself, it looks great in colour but I wanted to do a B&W water shot for B&W Fortnight... and in retrospect, it has a certain something extra in monotone - I'm glad you liked it.
@vignouse@kimkyra I went to the doctor for that once, a week of antibiotics and I was fine. In other news, you're more than welcome, it really is a superb shot
@tosee Bless you for your kindness Tom - I have a long way to go before I might merit that description... but in the 5 months I have been on here, and with the help of the fabulous 365 community, I have already come a long way and I have gained the confidence to do more. Isn't this a great place to be.
@trinda Hi Trinda - yes it's for real! It's been processed obviously, but only levels and tonal adjustments in Lightroom 5 and slight cropping to remove a bit of edge clutter as I was using a fisheye lens with a 180 deg field of view. All that you see here was in the Raw file that came out of the camera.
My eyes went funny without looking at it on black, but of course I had to look at it on black anyway and then my eyes went even funnier. It's a very interesting effect. I'm hoping my eyes go back to normal soon.
@catwoman2 I think the reason is that this was taken with a fisheye lens with 180 deg FoV which is a breadth of vision that our brains are not conditioned to process - just my theory.
Richard a beautiful shot you do have to see it on a black background and then it really comes to life. I love that you have created a leading line through the water to the clouds on the left. Great work.
The lighting is absolutely beautiful well captured!
