I really like the quality of b & w treatment of Mitzi and fantastic detail of the floor and mat. I have not tried a selective color yet. Is it post or in camera
Tit for Tat Richard. As your partner I want you to try something I could never pull off (I'll be honest) but there is another 365'rs style I love and I want you to try something in her style. I want this because you are always so clear and concise and I think it will push you to come up with something in her style. Prove me wrong. So I don't embarrass her (though I would hope she wouldn't be), here is the photo that started me following her. http://365project.org/rachelwithey/365/2014-05-24
@joansmor Hi Joan - I'm a little unclear about this challenge and how it's supposed to 'push' me. I've looked at Rachel's work and it was a real pleasure to do so... but I'm not sure that I could define a style to copy. If you look at the calendar views of her work, you will see that every photo she takes is very different... and I wouldn't want to copy anyone else's work anyway.
I think most of Rachel's work has a characteristic - rather than a style - in that it is suggestive rather than illustrative and, mostly, it tells a story. Ironically, the shot that you tagged is one of the few that is illustrative rather than suggestive so it does not share the characteristic of most of her shots.
From a study of Rachel's 'suggestive' work this year I see that she uses a number of techniques - either alone or combined with others: the Lensbaby, limited DoF, motion blur, selective defocus, creative processing, high-key rendition, soft-focus and colour adjustment... to name a few.
Here's my offer, I will take a photo this week that is suggestive rather than illustrative using one or more of the techniques that Rachel uses in her work. Because it will be my interpretation, it will be different to Rachel's work - and it's right that it should be. Will this do?
Finally, I've tagged Rachel @rachelwithey in on this because I think it's only right and proper that she should know what we're saying about her project.
Okay, I'm am not as good at this as you but what I mean is her pictures are as you say suggestive rather then clear strong pictures. And yet pleasing. I see your pictures as mostly clearly defined. So I accept your challenge. I hope Rachel will appreciate how much I like her stuff and you are right. I was hoping we tag her when you had a picture. My lack of art knowledge may lead me to believe you are almost polar opposites in your approaches when that is not true. All I know is what I wanted was to introduce two of my fav's. Because you both influence me and push me to try more.
@joansmor I'm really flattered. Thanks v much for your lovely compliments. @vignouse thanks for the lovely comments and the follow. Going to have a good browse through your work but may be tomorrow as it's 1.00 a.m here now. Love Brittany, what a beautiful place to live.
fav
Ian
