...this is the old walled city of St. Malo, Brittany seen from one of the many offshore forts at low tide. St. Malo was (in)famous in the 17-18C for its fearsome pirate bands, known as Corsairs.
@judithdeacon Thank you Judith: the walls here were built primarily as a fortification to protect St. Malo from sea-borne maurauders. The bastide towns have a rather different 'raison d'être' - see this link for more details http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastide
Gorgeous; thought there had been some post-processing until I viewed large, but no, just a beautiful painterly landscape. Visited Brittany on holidays a couple of years ago, would love to return some time.
