To the victor... by vignouse

To the victor...

...go the spoils!

But the victor has paid a price for his cannibal meal as he lost a leg in the skirmish. This spider doesn't appear to spin a web as such, rather it lays out 'trip wires' over a wide area and waits for something to trigger the alarm - in this case, another spider.
Interesting! it looks like a Daddy Long Legs which does indeed weave an irregular tangled web. So perhaps this is a daddy long legs look-a-like.

Good spiders are dead spiders !

@janiskay The creature normally called a 'Daddy Long Legs' in Europe is the Crane Fly: this I think is sometimes called a Daddy Long Legs Spider but its more common name is Cellar Spider, and its proper name is Pholcus Phalangioides. They often prey on other spider species, as this one has done. I'm waiting for Joan to come up and say 'Nice bugs!' ;-)

Great capture Richard! These cunning chaps will shake another spiders Web to mimic a trapped prey then use the enormous front legs to pounce when the spider pops out to see what's for lunch.
