It seems that everything has to be hi-tech these days... including apartment blocks! This futuristic apartment building on the bank of the Nantes-Brest canal at Redon is styled to look like a modern cruise liner. The trees reflected in the mirror window glass are on the opposite bank of the canal... and me and my camera are probably reflected in there somewhere too!
What makes this scene for me though is the charm of the real houseboat which is moored on the canal just in front of the pretend one. The contrast is striking and it is this old-tech one that gets my vote.
I'd go for the old-tech one overtime, as much as I like modern architecture (done properly...so subjective) I'd have to choose the old one, if for nothing else than to pretend to be a pirate. Great shot too.
The two sun umbrellas give the boat a relaxed air and it looks a solid craft for living or holidaying on! The 'boat' behind is a bit of an eyesore but probably has nice views from the inside!
Interestingly, with all those reflections, I'm thinking it's hard to see in. (just read Janice's objection though). I think I'd rather stay put than move, but windows that open are certainly high on list of amenities.
The old tech gets mine too and it looks lived in with the laundry draped outside, although I do like the reflections in the building, they are interesting.
Quirky! Love the idea that perhaps the appartment block's residents aren't amused. Meanwhile the houseboat has this lovely sylvan view on port and starboard sides simultaneously.
Great juxtaposition. I have a love hate relationship with modern architecture. it is only since taking up photography that I have come to love and appreciate the strong clean lines of modern architecture, but then I live in a big city so it is more palatable and easier absorbed. I am still not sure if I like when the architect goes for shock value and places something very modern in the midst of more classical architecture or a rural scene. Great shot!
