This is the follow-on to yesterday's post showing the combine harvester working at night - I wanted an image that was different to that one, but equally dramatic... IMHO!
Love that we are looking through the tall weeds to the mowed fields with theirs rolls of hay. It does look as if we could have fun rolling those hay bales around.
This brings back memories but we used square bales. My dad didn't start using round ones until after I went to college. Haying season was the reason I learned to cook. I had to cook for all the boys that would work for my dad. He let me drive the truck one time. Didn't work out to well because I could keep from popping the clutch. Thanks for a walk down memory lane.
How things have changed. I can remember taking lunch to the field where hay was being stacked (soda bread, buttermilk and cheese). The crop was cut and small bunches were tied then stacked to dry leaning against each other. Eventually they were stacked in great almost bungalow style. All the neighbouring farms eventually decided to hire a bailer and I can remember being fascinated to see these cuboid shaped bundles appearing. Oh how the times are changing - or could it be that I'm getting older- heaven forfend!
