Caught in the Act! by vignouse

Caught in the Act!

Despite the fact that my camera was at waist level, I was still 'made' by this little girl... and by the gentleman with the moustache on the right.

I'm also caught in the act of breaking many of the rules of composition here: the verticals aren't; the main subject is about to leave the frame; and the name of the bar is tight against the top of the frame. Despite my transgressions, I think this image works... just try taking your gaze away from the little girl who is the main subject here: I like the dog too.

Whatever its imperfections, this image pleases me: it's a typical summer holiday-season day-out in Paimpont for the people pictured - so it is my 365 post today... BtW, it's another of those that needs to be viewed on black for best effect!
I often think people have seen me snapping them when I have my ca are at waist level but I think it's our guilty conscious........I expect they are just looking at you & not the camera! Brilliant shot here, I like all intricate detail.

Love the way she's looking at you but no one else

shooting from the hip is a different technique and it's always impossible to get the framing, verticals and horizontals right - I haven't done it for ages

Rules serve a purpose, but understanding how and when to break them is the true art. Great photo and example of that concept.

@shannejw Thanks Shanne - you're right of course, but this is a crop from the centre of the image as shot... so all the mistakes are deliberate.

All rule-breaking worked to great effect. And you're right, her glance at you draws us in immediately and continues to bring us back to her.

Nice street shot!

My waist level shots are usually spectacular images of paving stones or peoples feet. Note to self....must try harder!! I love this there is plenty going on and it captures so well a typical summer holiday scene. Fav

I agree with you, Richard. Beautiful shot.

Great street shot. It's amazing how well-tuned some people's sixth sense or third eye is. Has anyone ever studied how people can tell when a camera is focused on them?

I like this shot. you know what they say about rules, for the guidance of wisemen and the obedience of fools.

Breaking the rules and making it work as well as this is a wonderful skill!

When I do it I do it outright then if someone objects I stop. Few people object and few people even seem to notice, so use have they gotten to people with cellphone cameras. If you think about it makes you "creepy" sneaking a picture. I mean creepy to your subjects, not creepy to me.

@joansmor I do a mixture of both Joan, but if people see that you're taking their photo it changes the whole ambience of the scene and if it is the ambience that attracted me, then I want to disturb that as little as possible.
