I hesitated long and hard last night when I was photographing this splendid parish church as I couldn't decide which view I wanted... and how best to keep lamp-posts and dustbins (out for collection early today) out of shot!
After almost an hour of photographing the church and some street scenes, I returned to the small car park at the east end of the church and actually started to drive away before deciding that I should really capture this view too.
I hesitated again before posting and then set this one - taken just after midnight - aside. But as a result of the interest (and Favs - thank you!) that yesterday's image received, I've decided to post this one tonight but in B&W for a change of view and treatment.
Stunning to say the least. Glad you took this shot. I am trying to slow down and work the subject more. Many photographers I admire advise to take at least 15 minutes shooting from different point of views on the same subject. Fav for me.
What I like is the focus on the front of the church with the cross and the statues. The other lighting gives the image form and shape but my eye keeps going back to the main subject. Sharing your process is so important as it shows how much thought goes into the final shot. Wonderfully done Richard.
Wonderful night shot, Richard. There is something very peaceful about this. I too have found that often that last hurried shot turns out to be my favourite.
It is strange what the black background does, as if I'm really outside. The white almost makes the church more narrow than when viewed on black. The way the light is spread is fantastic!
This view is especially interesting in black and white gives it a mystical atmosphere. My heart goes out to the previous one but congratulations for the patience !
This looks splendid, the lighting highlights the detail of the church very well and you've captured that detail. you've chosen a great POV too. The texture of stone does make such great subject especially when put together like this. Fav
Love the lighting Richard
