Contrasting Architecture

This complex of buildings are all part of the Lycée (High School) at Ploërmel and this is a view from the inner courtyard. Whenever I visit this building I am struck by how well the different architectural styles work together.

On black shows off the tonal gradations better.
Wow, they sure do work together well

Can't help, thinking that without the trees this courtyard would have little charm. VML How they soften the modern architecture whilst admiring the skill of those involved in the decision making process.

such different styles - I must say I think the middle building looks like a prison walkway

@annied The middle building is over a 100 years old and doesn't comply with current fire safety regulations so the structure you see is a network of external walkways and stairways which can also serve as fire- escapes should the need arise.

Nice architectural study and just shows that with a bit of thought there can be harmony between the new and the old.
