Paimpont 2018: Day 155 - Saint-Gurval, Guer - Nave

This is a follow-on from yesterday, which I don't normally do, but I was struck by the beauty and decoration of the chancel and transept (yesterday's post) in contrast to the unadorned simplicity of the nave (today's post). For me, the symbolism here is about the magnificence of God and the ordinariness of mankind.

Another part of the cathedral I expect - have to look up choir and transept! Beautiful!

@maggiemae Thank you Maggiemae - most catholic churches are built in the shape of a cross; the top of the cross is the chancel or choir where the main altar is; the cross piece is the transept which may house side altars.

Most old buildings, especially churches are a piece of art, so much better than what we build today... great picture Richard

VML the welcoming and bright light coming from the porch. The whole shot is calming and affirming.

There is definitely a contrast and your thoughtful comment makes me realize this is the case in many sanctuaries.
