I find it affirming that churches...at least in France...are always built on the highest spot. And YES could/should be auto-black as part of R's inherent criteria for his shots ;-) @maggiemae
@jernst1779 Well thank you Jean. In February 2014, one month after starting my project, I decided to do B&W February (Flash of Red) and I was petrified... by the end of the month I was hooked.
I think the answer is to practise, practise, practise. I mostly use hybride cameras so even though I am recording the image in colour, what I am seeing through the viewfinder is in B&W. Five years down the road, I know instinctively what I want the scene to look like in B&W and how to achieve it.
I can't tell you how to do it, you just have to practise until it becomes second nature. The most helpful thing I did was my 'Ocoloy' project - one camera, one lens, one year: I used a Fuji X100T with a 35mm (FF équivalent) lens, shot in B&W in the camera and posted sooc with no processing or cropping at all. It's not for the faint-hearted, but boy does it make you climb the learning curve swiftly.
@vignouse Richard, thank you so much for your thoughtful response. I really appreciate it. And you are so right to remind me it’s practice, practice, practice! Your question at the end will inspire me to do more, but, alas, I am not ready to do Ocoloy. But it gave me the idea to start a new b&w album to encourage me to shoot and post more b&w images. Many thanks to you for that inspiration!

Are you brave enough?
