One Subject - 30 Shots: White Knight 10

Northy @northy is hosting a challenge to photograph the same subject every day for the month of April: see the details here - https://365project.org/discuss/themes-competitions/43359/one-subject-30-shots

For my single subject I've chosen the White Knight from a replica copy of the 12C Isle of Lewis chess set: today, the White Knight receives the Bishops' blessing on his endeavours.

OB is best of course...
Love seeing your daily chess shot.

Love the way the people are brighter than the cross so it always a visual triangle with the three of them.

Perfect for the celebration taking place this weekend.

Splendidly dramatic. Can 'see' similarity of behaviour in this gathering and that of Oliver Cromwell and his allegiance to Henry Vlll, as portrayed in Hilary Mantel's 'The Mirror & The Light'. Highly recommended.

... of course on black. But wait a minute: bishops and a cross in a chess set?

@domenicododaro Bishops certainly... I added the cross as it was appropriate to the scenario and, of course, the day.

Looks very fitting for Easter.

Oh I didn’t know they were called Bishops in English! The Italian name is entirely different and has an entirely different meaning: we call the piece “alfiere” (from the Spanish “alferez” - and this from the Arab “al-faris”, the knight) and it is the standard-bearing officer. We still have a rank with that name in the Italian Navy. Sorry for being naif
