A Year of Days: Day 76 - Chêne des Hindres

Paimpont Forest was a working forest for over 400 years, producing charcoal for use in the blast furnaces of the local iron industry. The average deciduous tree is mature at around 80 years of age at which point they were felled and the area re-planted. As a consequence there are only a few old trees which were reprieved, probably for superstitious or religious reasons. This is one such - it's a circa 500 years old sessile oak known as the Chêne des Hindres and it looked very imposing with its gnarled old branches when I visited today.
It is interesting (don't take that wrong) to see the shapes of trees without there leaves. Why do they grow the way they grow. I have been looking at the trees in Deering Oaks Park recently and fascinated by the twists and turns. In summer they are just big canopies of green.

Oh by the way there is a certain sameness in my post today and yours even to the tone we choose. Not exact but similar.

@joansmor You're right! This is actually something I've never done before - it's the LR Creamtone pre-set. I was about to post a colour version when my cursor strayed over the pre-set list and I liked the way it looked in the preview box, so I clicked and posted! Getting lazy in my old age!
