Inspired by David @yrhenwr I recently ordered a pinhole body-cap for my Nikons to have a try at pinhole imaging, which goes back to the earliest days of photography - our Postie brought it today. My main 365 shot for today - of Paimpont Abbey, inevitably - is in B&W in the style of those early photographs. I was intrigued to find though that it is possible to produce a reasonable image in modern style too, as this picture taken in our garden today shows. I have a feeling this could be addictive - I sense that a pinhole selfie can't be far away!
Can I be honest, it lacks clarity or sharpness. But maybe it is supposed to. Well, you turned me onto Northy and I have now acquired a likeness for her posts so probably this will grow on me. But if you like it have fun playing.
I'm a little puzzled by your comment Joan... of course it lacks clarity and sharpness - there's no lens to focus the light, just a tiny, tiny hole in a plastic body-cap. I'm actually amazed by how clear and sharp this actually is, given the mechanics of light transmission and diffusion. Maybe I didn't explain what I was doing carefully enough, but think about it - if a cheap lens produces fuzzy uncontrasty images compared to a top optic... what kind of image would you expect no lens at all to produce?
Yes I like it and I shall indeed have fun playing.
@joansmor I meant to add, a pinhole 'lens' is like 'Dr Johnson's dog' - it's not that it produces good images that's remarkable... it's that it produces images at all!
@vignouse Ah I thought it fit over the lens so I was confused. Probably should have looked it up just tired. I think it just surprised me because your pictures are usually pin sharp focused.
