Took my father-in-law to Auckland International airport today. After 2.5 years of being in NZ, his visa finally ran out. It had been extended due to Covid, his original visa being for 6 months. This is inside NZ's busiest airport terminal. I can't get my head around how quiet the airport is. Air Singapore staff were excited that they had 100 people booked on the flight, the busiest flight they've had for ages.
What a cool shot! Really telling the Covid-story.
It will pass though - when we did a little trip within Oman last May the airport here looked very similar, but when I picked up my kids just before Christmas is was very very busy - business as normal again...
Wow this is a big change from when we were last standing in a queue on the 23rd March 2020. It was absolutely packed with people queueing tickets or no tickets! It took us well over two hours to get to the desk & we were three & a half hours early.
It’s a sad sight to see. You must be upset for your dad too. I can’t see what difference it would have made to let him stay longer.
Hope NZ will be allowed to open up in the not too distant future, your businesses must be desperate for tourists back.
