Political subj.

Does anyone agree with me that we should not be talking about politics on 365 no matter what your view?
November 10th, 2016
I like it better when we don't, but I don't think it will stop. If I don't want to read it, I just skip the picture.
November 10th, 2016
people are just sharing how they are feeling... its human,, dont worry it will pass
November 10th, 2016
@miata2u My picture was posted before the result during the vote- it was a question about what the outcome might be, not a response to the result.

This site is about photography. Many people use photography as a way to express their emotions. This is a very emotional day due to politics, so expect that these emotions will be expressed through photography.
November 10th, 2016
@tina_mac I very much agree.
November 10th, 2016
On top of photography in general, 365 is often a project that covers a year in someone's life. Some people do themes of some sort but many here seem to use it in a more "scrapbook" or journal way, if that makes sense. An election is a very big deal to a lot of people so of course it'll come up.

I remember a lot of photos/commentary about Brexit before, during, and after the voting for it.

I think we can express ourselves freely through our photography, while respecting others' right to think differently. Art, inc. photography has been used to express feelings and ideas about politics, religion and many other subjects since time immemorial.
Agreeing to disagree is part of living in harmony in real life.
November 10th, 2016
@ethelperry I absolutely agree with your sentiments.
November 10th, 2016
@ethelperry well said I totally agree. As an Australian I am very interested in how the election result has affected the American people. We certainly have had it non stop on our radio and tv
November 10th, 2016
@miata2u I think that would be a kind of censoring, Penny.
I absolutely agree with what others have said. 365 is a place to express ourselves around our common interest.

If we find that we disagree with what someone says, we move on, just as we would on other social media sites.

There is a difference, to me, about expressing our feelings and campaigning or proselytizing. Emotions here in the US are very strong and I would be surprised not to see this emerging in our images. It's not simply politics, but values, and values are one of the reasons this is such an emotional time. Emotions do belong on this site - recognizing that the root causes will vary considerably, from personal to political and beyond.

i believe if you do not agree, simply do not comment. i do not drink alcohol, believe it leads to many violent acts so do not comment on all of the photos around the holidays that get posted. i once posted a photo of our pigs and got blasted by people here - told i was cruel for raising them for food. it is all a matter of opinion.

I agree too. We become friends here on 365 and friends will need to commiserate now and then. It won't last long. Photography makes everyone forget their troubles.

When I joined this community I was always under the impression that it was a daily journal of one’s travel thru this thing we call life. We frequently see pictures of families, celebrations, our pets, nature, all parts of the world and that is what I find the most enthralling about this forum. Politics impact all of us and they are definitely a part of this thing called life. I remember, as Carissa @claycameras mentioned, when the travails and the fallout of Brexit were an ongoing topic and I enjoyed getting everyone’s perspective and how it impacted their day-to-day. As photographers we live by the essence of the freedom from censorship and my personal feeling is that Ross Scirevener would not want it any other way. There are photos each and every day which my no be “our thing” but the beauty of this site is that you can simply bypass them and not make any comments – easy-peasy. Simply my humble opinion…

I'm not really into politics that much but once in a while I don't mind reading some topics 'bout it---I just move on if i see a photo that doesn't pleases me.
✌❤️😊

It's their project, they can post as they want. We can't start placing restrictions on what people put in their projects, soon we won't be able to post anything at all. If you don't like their politics, don't follow their project.
November 10th, 2016
I found it very interesting the read the views of the American people I follow and was impressed with how they presented the additional 1000 words in their pictures. And Carissa is right, we Brits banged on about Brexit to you and we were supported in this lovely community!!
November 10th, 2016
I embrace photography as a creative outlet to express emotions. The only reason that I found the energy to get out of bed yesterday was to create a photograph to express my feelings.
November 10th, 2016
A
My opinion is that this shouldn't be a place to start a great political argument, but as everyone else has already said, politics is something that affects our day-to-day lives and so may well affect our emotions and therefore our art
November 10th, 2016
Throughout history art in all its forms has been used to shape, mould, illuminate and illicit feelings whether that is good or bad, some of the most powerful images come from the darkest times, because it is in the darkness that we inevitably search for the light, we capture moments so they will not be forgotten and in exposing our images we in turn expose part of our soul, I for one find that a beautiful thing, because by our art we get to know each other, our traits our fears our hopes our ideals the little things that make us fly and the sorrows that chain us in taking away any part of that you take away the whole story. At a politically turbulent time it is inevitable that Political images are going to be forced into sharp relief because lets face it the spot light is on them, it is up to the viewer whether they choose to look deeper into them or not that is what art and especially Photography is all about and in my opinion long may it be so.
November 10th, 2016
I would have to strongly disagree (but politely). I've posted all kinds of photojournalistic shots over the years with political narratives or with a political message inherent in the perspective. I was actually going to suggest a thread with the theme "politics" however anyone wanted to address it in photography. I mean, should no one post photos that are religious? I feel very comfortable going there, but no one has to look at it and is free to address it however one likes.

@tina_mac I'm with Tina also.
For me, this is a somewhat journalistic project as well as photographic one-
@miata2u Interesting topic- thanks for raising it.
November 11th, 2016
@miata2u No. Politics is a part of our life, and as a part of our reality, is a suitable subject o be discussed..
November 11th, 2016
I am so glad to get so many responses for this question. I was just curious how everyone felt about the subj. Thank you for your honest opinions on photographs and politics.I did not mean to offend anyone.
November 11th, 2016
I think I felt this way because I worked the polls for 15 hrs. on the 8th and heard everyone complain, no matter which way they voted. It was a very trying day, but someone has to do it, right? lol
November 11th, 2016
@miata2u oh my goodness! Bless you for your forebearance!
November 11th, 2016
@tina_mac Great comment.

@brett101 Totally agree. 365 is individual to the person behind the lens and what he/she sees to record daily. @miata2u it's always good to discuss and debate - the essence of democracy.
November 11th, 2016
@miata2u i do not believe you have offended anyone - it is always good to ask questions! discussion is good and healthy. what is not good is when people do not talk but simply break down into arguing and accusations or attacks. imo, this is one of the best things about this site - the people here try very hard to be nurturing, to encourage creativity, to create a safe place for everyone. i think that is why people stay for so long and come back after taking a break. we all should ask more questions. it is how we learn, how we grow.
