The first race of the season is the Slipper Shiver and it is well named. Wind chill factor, rough seas and a drop in temperature made for a very cold rescue boat duty that felt a lot longer than the three hours we were on the water!
All poor photos as it was very choppy, my camera got wet, my hands got very cold so camera away after 1/4 of an hour as we got very busy with capsized dinghies!!
Hats off to you. I really don't think I could've been out there doing what you do, it makes me feel queasy just looking at that choppy sea. Great collage!
At least your sacrifice was worth it, saving lives. I canât imagine being in water in those conditions. I think my body would be hypothermic and unable to move. This must be some kind of annual ritual like a polar bear plunge.
I cannot imagine being out there in those conditions! Nice of you to be there for those people who apparently donât have any sense at all and are out there voluntarily! A fabulous collage of the activity considering the circumstances.
@randystreat they didn't retire either- very hardy @denful thank you @farmreporter they are all very keen sailors @jeneurell they were well insulated and working hard to stay warm @wendyfrost so cld I wanted to cry! @grammyn we all have to do a duty a year- we get hot soup after this one!! @haskar it didn't rain - so not too bad @shutterbug49 we didn't pull a single person out of the water or lift a boat- dedicated sailors @jacqbb good grief no!! In a power boat patrolling to make sure sailors are safe @ludwigsdiana it was quite gussty at times- give me a cruiser race any day!! @joansmor thank ou @koalagardens it was bitter- so cold I coulb't feel my fingers and toes in agony @wakelys just a sense?? @joysabin perhaps summer duty would be more sensible @ljmanning counted them all out and counted them all back in @serendypyty I don't get queasy, just soooooooooooooo cold!!
