This female grouse was quietly sitting on the shoulder of the highway this afternoon. At first I thought she might be hurt, but when I pointed the camera in her direction she became quite alert, and, after two quick snaps, she flew off. I had noticed a Golden Eagle swooping across the pasture next to her, and I have to wonder if she wasn't hiding out there next to the roadside. Thankfully, the eagle had moved on just before I scared her off.
