We could hardly wait til it got dark to try out our sparklers. Maddie at first preferred to be a spectator but eventually became a full-fledged participant in the festivities. Then we came indoors just in time to watch the fireworks in Washington DC on PBS's annual "A Capitol Fourth" followed immediately by the grand finale from New York City. As I write this there is a continual barrage of fire crackers up and down the street, but Maddie is sound asleep having had a very full day of playing, swimming and celebrating/
