Here it is, our last evening, as we celebrated Maddie's birthday with an orgy of presents, dinner out and an ice cream cake back at home. Maddie's Mom even came by to give her a gift on her actual birthday. The celebration continues on Saturday with all her friends for a pool party. I had forgotten how thrilling attaining the next year is to a child this age. More exciting to her than the My Little Pony remote control plane or secret spy glasses or Wonder Woman action figure was the realization that she was 5. She told us, with great satisfaction, about 20 times throughout the day. Since the actual moment of her birth was 9:19 PM, her bedtime extended to the magic moment. When it appeared she wouldn't be ready to settle down, I told her if she wasn't in bed by 9:19, she would revert back to being 4. Cruel but effective.
We'll be sorry to say good-bye tomorrow morning as we head back to Virginia but feel so fortunate that we have this chance to share the important times in Maddie's life.
beautiful smiles! We should all be that excited to attain the next year! I've never minded getting older, but perhaps I should be more joyful about it?
great use of B/W Allison and I like how you both have tilted your heads to the side a little i.e. a very photo friendly pose for a portrait ...rather than a straight on shot.
You both have lovely happy smiles and I told you before you did not look old enough to be a grandma !!
what a great bonding time. I too live far away from my grandkids and I hate it. You have to make the time you are there with them more special.
This is one for the album for sure.
This is such a beautiful picture of you two. It is so hard to part and this is one of the things I find hard to understand in American culture - the geographical distances between family members.
You both have lovely happy smiles and I told you before you did not look old enough to be a grandma !!
pet your're putting this lovely picture up somewhere at home.
This is one for the album for sure.
How lovely to spent time with your granddaughter on her birthday!
