If you happen to visit Richmond in the next few months, make sure to include a trip to this exhibit at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Featuring more than 100 objects from the internationally renowned Egyptian collection of the British Museum, Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb explores the rituals of death and burial in ancient Egypt and uncovers mysteries that have shrouded mummies for millennia.
What makes it so special and so up to the minute, is the 3D movie with which you begin your visit. Narrated by Patrick Stewart, it shows the virtual unwrapping of Nesperennub’s mummy using the most advanced scanning technology currently available. Peering beneath the linen wrapping, visitors see how this temple priest may have looked and lived. John and I were both astounded by the power of the graphics and found the movie to be a powerful introduction to the rest of the show. Picture taking was not allowed at this exhibit but I hope you look at my second album where I will be posting a collage from another amazing exhibit at the Virginia Museum.
Looks like a fantastic exhibition! We have a Tutankhamun exhibition here in Melbourne at the moment too - it didn't have such a cool movie to start it off though...
Allison, unfortunately I won't be able to visist the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in the next month !!! , but I feel I don't need to after your lovely words and photo :)
Looks like it's an awesome exhibit. I was just in NYC to see an exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls- same thing though- no photos. Very disappointing, but certainly understandable. I wish the books had not been so expensive. But then again, I have other books with similar info, so I can use them to remember. Nice composition on this one- a good summary of what you saw.
