Another photo taken on the empty playground. This gazebo was dedicated in 2007 to honor the memory of the mother of a First Grade student. She had died of cancer during the school year, and as you can well imagine, it shook the entire class to the core. I quote now from the school website:
"The class had a role in deciding what would be appropriate to include in the ceremony. The children thought there should be music. The children thought there should be poetry, and a prayer. The children liked the idea of bubbles being blown, to reflect the spirit of joy and fun that Woolwine possessed. And on this beautiful late spring day, the hundreds of bubbles reaching towards the sky seemed very fitting, and the smiles on the children's faces seemed the perfect ending to a lovely and emotional ceremony."
Collegiate is a family school and the mother for whom this structure was dedicated was a graduate in 1984. These family connections help to ease the pain in a small way.
