A view of the gardens at Oatlands. Here is a little background from the site of National Trust for Historic Preservation which currently owns this property:
Once part of the extensive Carter family plantation holdings, Oatlands is located between Washington and Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. Elegant formal gardens were created by generations of the two families who lived here. After the Civil War, the plantation became unprofitable. A prominent Washington family purchased, preserved and maintained the house and grounds as a country estate. Oatlands tells the stories of a 19th-century working plantation, a turn-of-the-century English-style country house and the families who made their home there.
We were given a guided tour of the house but had the opportunity of enjoying the grounds on our own.
Beautiful place - great shot.
Good to be back - hope all is well in your neck of the woods Allison.
It will take me a few days to catch up with comments :)
I love places like this. Your story makes it feel like I'm right there with you. Beautiful setting and I'm lovin' that dog statue. Great shot, Allison.
i love this sculpture allison, it is indeed very 'English'.
btw, thanks for link to the jubilee celebrations in Nottingham :), there are some wonderful images in the link. Although I live in Nottingham, I work outside the city, so I did not get an opportunity to see any of the 'royal visit'
