Last night daughter Meg and her husband John (both chefs) prepared a summer feast that will not soon be forgotten. On the left you see a vegetable combination consisting of corn grilled over a wood fire then cut from the cob. With it are local cherry tomatoes and wax beans seasoned with thyme from Meg's garden. The dish in the middle is a panade of tomatoes, Swiss chard, gruyere cheese and peasant bread. Meg got the recipe from Food and Wine magazine. Here is a link to the recipe: http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/tomato-chard-and-gruyere-casserole it was also made with local ingredients. The main course was a chicken stuffed with lemon, roasted over a wood fire. In addition you might be able to see garlic scapes, which is the green that grows from the bulb. John cut them into pieces and cooked then in olive oil and salt for a long time til they got really sweet.
Meg's pastry skills were not brought into play because after this bounty, we couldn't eat another bite!
How I envy you having a couple of accomplished chefs in the family! The food sounded amazing, and, like you, I like to take pictures of food. I think of all the prep time and the presentation and I suppose it shows appreciation for a meal well prepared!
everything looks so delicious.
