The renowned glass artist, Dale Chihuly will be featured in a big show at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, beginning in October. Today and tomorrow one of his unique glass installations is being set up in the lily pond at the museum. John and I went there this morning to see the beginning of the process. First they placed grates in the pond and then glass rods will appear to be rising organically from the water. Tomorrow I am gong back to see (and photograph) the completed installation.
I didn't realize it wasn't until October that it's going to be there - such a long wait! When his exhibit was in Boston, he left one of his pieces behind at the Museum of Fine Arts - hopefully, he'll do the same for you!
@sparkleplenty1 Yes, he is creating a chandelier which he will leave behind. @karenann I've seen his work in Las Vegas and Dallas and I'm really looking forward to this exhibit!
He is truly an amazing glass worker and artist. I first saw his work at the Tower of David Museum in Jerusalem. Since then I have also seen some of his pieces in Corning, NY. Some of it is very strange looking and other pieces are fascinating to me. I also love the colors he gets and how he understands before he makes the piece what the light will do when it hits it. Nice collage- now I'll have to go see the "finished" shot!
Oh, you are so lucky you will have his work nearby. He is amazing, and I have seen him in different cities, and even in other countries. @olivetreeann - Uhm I also saw him at the Tower of David, where it was amazing to see the contrast of the old and the new.
will be nice to see more tomorrow.
very nice
