20 Empty Seats by allie912

20 Empty Seats

Soon after I heard the terrible news about the school shooting in Connecticut, I took this picture in a kindergarten classroom at my school. To think this many children will not be returning to class Monday, will not be learning and playing and growing. It is too terrible to comprehend.
I just can't understand :(

When I heard that 20 students died, I thought that represented an entire class. Too many. It's 20 too many. I just don't understand. My heart aches.

@glendq You are so right. We have to find ways to cancel the horror of this act, or at least somehow balance it in the scales of Life.

allison....i find it hard to comment...but i feel i have to.

our hearts and thoughts are with the families devastated by the events that happened thousands of miles from our UK shores.

Your picture is poignant and very moving

President Obama seemed so upset when speaking to your great nation. I hope the people of the US can force the government to change the laws to somehow stop horror acts like this (and the change must come from the people, not politicians) ...maybe i am being too simplistic.

My mother was a kindergarten teacher; my sister was and is now teaching first grade. My granddaughter is also in first grade. She is 6. So this has particularly struck me. I see the pictures and I see her. So many things speak aspects of this event speak volumes to me (things of the way life is lived and how human worth is understood or denied) and yet it still comes down to the tragedy of it all. The thoughtfulness of this picture is so strong- you have surely captured both the joy of the children and the sorrow of those empty chairs.

My granddaughter Haley is 6 and in the first grade at what appears to be the safest school in the world. I can't even imagine something like this happening to her .... I feel as Ann (above) does. So sad. I cried when I heard Pres. Obama's speech at the memorial service.
