Richmond was bitterly cold and windy this morning, but there was not a snowflake to be seen. That is, until we got to the parking lot of Home Depot and pulled in next to this pick up truck. Naturally I had to take a picture, not realizing the owner was right there getting ready to open the door. I explained my mission, and he was happy to report that he had driven in from Louisa, about 30 miles west of Richmond, where the flakes were enormous but the roads were clear.
With all the errands we had to run today, I'm sure glad we didn't have the extra challenge of snow.
It's such a funny but awkward thing when you have to explain why you're taking a picture of something to a complete stranger! (That happened to me with the forks on the wall- two people at the table next to the decoration seemed a bit concerned when I walked in their direction with my camera in hand. I reassured them immediately that I was not there to take their picture, but I'm sure they spent the remainder of the day asking the same question in your title!) I like the owner's tentative glance!
Noting Ann's comment, I have had nice experiences when I've wanted to photograph something about a car and the driver is there... The best was a man in a car from Newfoundland and we had a wonderful conversation!
You often wonder where the cars or trucks with all the snow comes from when where you are there isn't any. glad you're ok. in a case like this, striking up a conversation helps the situation.
