I had never been at the Metro Richmond Zoo but today was my big opportunity. I accompanied the Second Grade on a field trip, and it was all kinds of awesome! This zoo was established by a man in his backyard, and then it began to grow as he added more land and animals. Now it has one of the largest collections of primates in the country. The children all had research notebooks to guide them in their day of discovery. They studied not only the animals but their habitat. In the next few weeks they will continue to research the wildlife and the design of a zoo, so they can construct a model zoo of their own. I'm so glad to be part of this exploration.
