The first sense I had that something out of the ordinary was happening when I drove into the grocery store parking lot, was the police officer standing watch. The second sign was the sound I heard when I opened the car door. The skirl of bagpipes filled the air. The Greater Richmond Pipes & Drums was massing to march down Cary Street, kilts flaring and pipes blaring.They were there to escort Santa through Carytown on this, the official start of the holiday season.
