A members’ tour of Agecroft Hall where we saw an English walnut tree growing way too close to the structure. (BTW, after you gather English walnuts, you must wait a year to eat them.) A collection of essays by James I, a portrait of the king himself, a trip to the archives to learn about items not usually on display, including a fuddling cup (Try to drink without dripping on yourself) some 16th century technology to keep track of your laundry, a set of wooden “small plates” for serving appetizers or desserts, and finally a unique kind of harpsichord, played sideways to save space. (Unfortunately it didn’t work very well because it needed gravity to complete the striking of the note and that didn’t work so well in that position)
We learned a great deal more from the director of Agecroft and the curator of the collection. This was a real perk of membership. If you live in the Richmond area, I encourage you to join. For $25 a year, it is a real bargain.
That looks fascinating! Richmond has great museums, though I have to admit I mostly know them through your pictures. When we used to visit, we spent most of our time with family.
