This morning's big race had perfect weather for the almost 42,000 runners and walkers. Although I did not participate, I did walk to Monument Avenue to enjoy the excitement.
Note: All the black and yellow was worn in honor of the basketball team of local university VCU which played (and lost ) in the semifinal game of the NCAA tournament this evening.
USA Today has listed Richmond's race as one of the top 10 in the country:
This 6.21-mile race, takes runners down tree-lined Monument Avenue, which is dotted with historic statues and surrounded by beautiful Southern homes. "You get the sense that Richmond really was the capital of the south," says Yasso, who explains it's also a very festive race. There are bands that play along the course and a costume contest. "
Personally I think watching is more fun than running.
Fantastic collage! You really captured the mood. I had a friend running in that so I had to search carefully to see if you'd gotten a shot of her. That would have been too coincidental!
the spectators are a very important part of the races too. That cheering really does help. And a couple races that my daughter ran through residential areas during the hotter months, some of the residents stood out with their garden hoses and wet down the runners.
