It's been awhile since I last did an abstract shot and it was time. Any guesses?
I had a great morning of solitude while Clara was in preschool. She'd been sick and home with me all week. I drove my framed photo to the art center where it will be judged and on exhibit. And then I had some time to kill, just me and my camera in a new part of town. It was pretty blissful. The downside is sorting through and editing all the photos.
I decided today that I want a photography website. After submitting photos to a friend for his website and not having a web address but 365 to give him, I saw the need. Any pointers how best to do this? If you have a website, will you give me your link so that I can check it out for ideas. How else am I going to earn a new lens and other camera gear?
Good for you for getting it done, Amanda. . and this is a lovely shot. My guess is a park bench. . .beautiful color. My son gave me a year of Zenfolio and I'm still working away at getting it ready. . .never enough time!
I'm going with shovel too. And we must be on the same wavelength.... both shots I posted today are shots where I'm making people guess what they are (although the main album one is easy if you're old enough)
Hmm ... No good guesses. Curious as to where you will go with your website. What are you looking to get out of it? I keep toying with the idea. I'm getting my first photography article published next week though!
@archaeofrog Cold hard cash!! Large bills.;-) I'd like to have images in one place and for sale. I don't expect that it would generate a lot, but it would just be nice to have a presence online and have somewhere to point people so that I could have a business card at exhibits, etc. I have a photo in a contest and I was telling someone that I hope it sells so that I at least break even (I spent a lot on the framing, printing, etc.). He said, "The point isn't to make money but to get your name out there." Well what good does getting my name out there do me without a website or place to buy...a professional front. I also want to consider doing portraits occasionally and that could be advertised there. Just beginning to thinking about it.
Whatever it is (I don't know if its been revealed yet) it's pretty darn cool looking. Great perspective and use of lighting. Very nice abstract work Amanda.
Beautiful perspective -- liked the title which captured it well. Sort of going with shovel at this point because of the curve. Also liked the color against the background.
I would say fork tines, but that would be one big fork. I'm going with leaf rake. Now I will read the other comments to see if the identification has been revealed. By the way, I love your captions. They make me chuckle every day. Thanks for that!
Wonderful abstract. I love the colour. It could be a park bench. On the other hand it looks like looking down the inside of a plastic comb binder too. Hmmm. Perplexing.
Good luck with the website. If you are hoping to generate cash my advice would be to go for one of the commercial gallery sales sites. They let you set up a gallery and have the sales background software already installed. However, the initial investment can be quite high and the payback will be very low - especially at the beginning. Getting people to come to your site will be your biggest investment - time is money. Most people who run websites will tell you they spend two to three hours a day doing online marketing and social networking. And most people who ask about websites don't understand what that really means until they have made the investment and get no visitors. So read up on online marketing as the next thing you do.
The other way to do it is to use a website like Amazon or Ebay to set up shop and then drive your traffic there. A lot of people in your position finds that pays more returns for the online marketing efforts.
I would love to hear how you get on so I will follow your adventures... Check out my tips and tricks site at: http://www.photokonnexion.com/
cool shot...is this a park bench? Also, you may want to check out this website that I recently learned of...they have a photography theme: http://www.wix.com
Lovely! I love the curves and the blue - great DOF. Ir makes me think of some sort of park bench. As for a website, what if you even had just something like a blog or a FB page? You'd be able to refer people there and then if things really picked up, you could move toward something paid?
Hi guys, thanks all so much for your comments, guesses and website thoughts. So, the winning answer is: wait for it...park bench. This is my second park bench abstract. I need a new subject or location. Fresh ideas...something. Happy weekend and thanks for playing!:)
Very cool abstract abstract!! Wow a park bench, would've never guessed! Please let me know when you get your website up and running :) Cheering you on sunshine! :) You are an amazing photographer!
So I'm posting on a random favorite old shot buried way back in your project to ask you if it's just me, or if the vibe in here has changed. Or do I just need to give it a little more time? A lot of my old friends seem to have moved on... guess I just need to go find some new ones!
@squamloon Maybe it has? I'm on much less these days. I take weekends mostly off with a pop in comment here or there. It really is a changing group with people coming and going. People finish their year and move on. I miss the old friends when they go. New friends may be the rout to go. I feel bad because I don't reply much, I'm hardly commenting, but I do what I can. I love and get frustrated with this all in the same breath. Try to have fun with it, though.
Do you want to sell online or simply display your work?

@netkonnexion Great insight, Damon. Thanks so much for taking the time.
@emrob Great idea, Mandy. A FB page might be the best place to start and have contact info up there. Thanks for the suggestions!
