The highlight of my zoo trip the other day was this wonderful guy. Who goes to the zoo for the frogs? Actually I don't really, but when he caught my eye in the reptile house, I knew I had a winner of a subject.
I was just thinking the other day about how much I miss frogs. We don't really have frogs here in Ohio. At least I don't ever see them with the exception of a large toad at the lake that I have seen a couple times in the year and a half I've been here.
Florida, where I grew up, was hopping with frogs and crawling with lizards (and even full of roaches, but I don't look back on them with fond memories). I was reminded of this while driving the other night and noticing the leaves swirling in the road. They looked like the frogs on a rainy night on the roads in FL.
Once, when I was a young driver, there was a frog in the middle of the driveway. I parked in the street, got out and scared him out of the way. When I pulled in, he jumped back in front of the car, seemingly intent to die, and I squished him. That made me so sad, even though I had done my best to save the little dude.
There is just something about froggy. Maybe it's the golden eyes. I think that it's the quivering necks and rumply skin. I was thinking that this one looked like his name could be Rumplestiltskin.
House update: Our realtor is really our advocate and helped us to feel much better about the long list of house issues. Many of them we are asking for the seller to repair and even asking for a discount in the price of the home to cover the exterior painting that we need to do right away. We will see what the seller agrees to...I am so ready to know what the heck is going on and move forward!
And this guy is marvelous big. I love all his texture and wrinkles!
I was going to ask you, @bobfoto to post another frog photo...it is time, but didn't get around to it. Maybe wait a week or so:). I will not delete this, I will not delete this...how you been?
I like how he is peering through the leaves, checking you out :) Still have my fingers crossed for you but it is starting to get quite difficult to do my day to day work and I actually think they are now stuck in the crossed position ;)
@thirtysevenways I give you permission to let your fingers go back to normal. A little prayer is easier on the fingers and quicker than crossing them all the time;). Thanks so much, my friend.
Ooo, nice shot. He may be a Prince... he may not be... maybe the one you squished was a Prince? Shame on you! LOL...just teasing - that is sad. :() hehe
Hope the bloomin' house issues get sorted. We are having issues with our purchase too... it's been months now - seller has all sorts to sort out, which is driving us balmy! Good luck to you guys and us all. here's to moving soon!
He really is very sweet. You've reminded me of something I used to do when I was little. There was an annual "help a toad across the road" campaign. There were loads of toads who moved from one part of the town to another in order to mate - part of this route involved crossing a very busy road. We used to put them in buckets and cross them across the road. Must check if it happens where we live now - my kids would love it
Super point of view to get his protruding eyes. Frogs are an indicator species for the health of the environment, so if you are not seeing them it isn't good news.
Such a cool shot, frogs are really intriguing creatures though they freak me out a bit! Not sure why, maybe I'm scared they will ask for a slimy kiss :-)
Very cool shot. I can 100% confirm your observation about frogs in OH. I haven't seen one except the odd toad once in a while in the back yard. You've done this fella proper - he looks like a prince alright! :)
@rellimdj Thanks, Joe! Is it just the wrong climate? Or are we doomed like Ross mentioned? @rvwalker And thanks for your comments, Ross. I just assumed that we were too cold for frogs here...that they were a tropical thing. We have turtles. Does that count for anything?:)
@dreamatrix They are always trying to weasel a kiss, I think. And I guess maybe it's a girl. I assumed it was a dude...the frog prince and all. What is with me and assuming wrong genders?! Sheesh. Thanks!
Great shot, I especially like his eyes. Whilst picking something up in the dark the other day I felt something squishy in my hand and suddenly a great big slimy toad jumped out......yucky!!
Great shot of this frog, Amanda. Love your story as always with the exception of the squished frog, to your defense, you did try to save it and it opted to get in the way. We heard a lot of frogs when we moved here but that has changed. So happy about the house and should have said something in your previous post as I watch House Hunters all the time. They have the seller pay to fix things or reduce the price and you do the repairs. It will work out if it is meant to be. Fingers and toes crossed that it does. Sounds perfect in so many ways, my friend. Oh, really rains frogs in Florida. lol I did not know they have that many. You need to write as you create visuals so well and are a wonderful story teller.
gorgeous froggy shot... love how he is lurking behind the leaf... hold strong about the house... it's wickedly stressful, but you'll make it thru to the other end - no worries!
I think he wants to kiss you... ;) sending prayers the house issues become less stressful. I have friends that have put a statue of St. Joseph in the yard to sell a home. (it worked for all of them) He is the patron Saint of a happy home...maybe it works if you want to buy a home?
I like your story about getting out of the car to save the frogs life on the road and your fondness toward these living creatures. You have done well with this capture a nice tribute. All the best on your home and pray the owner covers all the costs.
Reminds me of King from Shrek - same sad looking eyes =) love this capture, Amanda =) Last summer we had a frog living in the little pond in our garden =)
@amandal - That was just a wind-up. I figured you needing to ask me about your ISO just needed a one word answer... and noisy was the best bait one could summons.
@bobfoto Shew. Here I was thinking that you've been being awfully mean to me lately. I had a few of these photos to chose from. I think that I picked wrong with this one. Not really noisy so much (meanie) but the leaves are rather an obstruction in his froggy face. I guess I have my share of meanness. Was the prank tag mean? I didn't think you'd see that.
@amandal - I gotcha... I was thinking the tags over on the right hand side, but you mean the old typing someone's name and making it blue kinda tag. And your ISO comment was the 'prank tag'? nice... you deserved my response then.
@bobfoto NO, my prank tag was when I tagged you last weekend, changed my mind and deleted it not realizing that you would still get it. I was just being silly about the ISO question.
@moreyoulessme They are golden, huh?! Thanks, friend. Oy vey...still no word back. We did find out that they had 5 days to get back with us. They are getting quotes and scrambling to see what they will do. Maybe we will know something tomorrow or Tuesday. Waiting is tough and I am impatient.
Great shot
@paulaw Thanks, lady. I am such a fan of frogs. Appreciate the fav!:)
@wenbow Thanks so much for your kind words and fav, Wendy!

@eyesmile me, too. I am a sucker for froggies. Thanks so much, Gena!!
Thanks all so much for the froggy love. Hope you are having a hoppin' good weekend!
